I got a progress tutorial with my tutor Will today. Although it just have 30 minutes it was quite important for the further plan of my project. According to my tutor's suggestions, I rewrite some parts of my unit 7 proposal. Because at first I didn't have a clear direction of what I can do for the further exploration. I just knew I want to use purely visual communication like photography and illustration to present my works. The tutor has helped me to pick up my memories that I had done the Hear Make Heard Project which topic was linked to human and nature. He said that why not keep exploring this topic because it was what I wanted to finish before. 

I thought it probably a good idea for my project so I decided to use human and nature as my new topic for my proposal. But I thought more importantly, wordless was the main concept I have built for this unit so finally I haven't changed the title of the proposal.

Because the four projects need to show a development of the work, so I have to make a detailed plan for what I can do in each project. For the first project I have used big scale illustration which style was American black humor. In the second project I would like to try to use photography to present my work.

in the morning today I did some online research of my project 2 in order to gain some inspirations for it. At this time I wanted to explore what influence people's choice in the life. In other words, I want to use graphic design to show how the people's hobbies or personalities be built by themselves.

I decided to collect more linked and primary materials for my project. According to the online research I have done yesterday, I found human behaviors have been influenced a lot by the environment. So I sought someone who has chosen different occupations and then gave them a short interview in order to proof my thought.

My grandmother Mingxian used to be a doctor in the force. I guessed she could give me some interesting experiences she had had. I interviewed her through the voice call because she was in my hometown. I asked her what caused her to choose doctor as her occupation for the whole life. She told me that she lived with her parents in the hospital from her childhood. So the environment has influenced her a lot and finally let her to be a doctor in a new generation. I was glad that I found one important reason that can decide people's choice straightly. That means later I can found a way to present that.

Additionally I was curious about why many designers addicted to cigarettes. So I interviewed some of my friends who smokes everyday. Most of them said that the cigarette could give them inspirations of art and design and also smoking could let them forget the bad things in their lives. I suspect wether the cigarette have the strong power like that because I didn't smoke. I think it just have bad effect for human's body instead of the food for people's spirit. If so it is the junk food for our spirit. This will be another point I want to figure out later.

According to the interview and resources collection I did yesterday, I came up with some idea I can design for. The first idea comes from the interview last day. I realized people choose their occupations by many different reasons. I was quite confused to use one common way to show their choices and reasons. So I decided to use the same way to show their preference. And also I wanna make it more funny and interesting. So I want to draw a series of illustrations that to show how people choose their occupations. In my imagination, a doctor must ate a lot of tablets before they became to a doctor. A botanist might grew from a small seeds. I can draw them into four continued boxes so that the audience could understand the processes of their growth. But there still have some problems. For example, there
isn't a clear intention of these series of illustrations and it doesn't have a straight connection with my main topic in Unit 7. What I need was come up more different ideas I thought.
My second idea was also about people's choices. But this time I would like to use photographs to present their own choices. In my hometown there was a old saying that what you eat will be what you grow. For example if you often eat fish eyes, your eyes will have a good eyesight. According to these saying, I imagined that the things we eat everyday would influence what kind of person we will be. For example, the artist will eat pens and colours because they need them. Guns and bullets might be the common meal for the soldiers. So each occupations will have different meals. I just to use this extreme way to emphasize that it is important to choose a suitable 'meal' for yourself.
The third idea was different from the other two ideas because I thought they were quite abstract so the purposes would be difficult to convey to the viewer. During my
research yesterday I found that many of my friends have bad habits like smoke. some are even more serious because they started to abuse the drugs. I want to use my design to help them drop those bad habits because they are very bad for their health. I wanna use creative photography to present my idea which is using other things to replace cigarettes or drugs. In order to help them give up the addiction I decided to use something that looked useless to replace the cigarettes and drugs. I thought that might notice them to pay attention to their bad habits.
After summarizing my ideas I preferred the last one because it was not only unique and interesting but also shows a obvious topic. But I will do the experiments for each ideas to see the effects of them.
